Introducing Come Together
We have a packed programme for this year's festival, and we hope that you will want to join us.
Following the pattern of the past three years, there will be opportunities to explore different creative activities in smaller groups as well as time to share experiences together. You will meet old friends and new.
We are particularly excited this year that Geraldine Latty and Carey Luce will be joining us. They will be providing three optional workshops, one will focus on voice care, and the other two on giving people the opportunity to sing together in harmony. Then, on Saturday evening, they will entertain us all.
If High Leigh has to close due to further Covid-19 restrictions, we will offer full refunds. We have a contingency plan to provide some form of festival via Facebook and Zoom if the conference centre has to close: there may be a small charge to cover the expenses of session leaders.
The programme for the weekend
Friday 9 October
Arrive at High Leigh from 4.00 pm onwards to register and settle in your room.
We meet in small groups around tables in the main hall. This will give us an opportunity to get to know each other and share our expectations for the weekend.
We then enjoy our first meal together at 6.45 pm, after which we will begin our explorations of creativity and how it may be used to serve others.
Geraldine Latty and Carey Luce lead Sing Free, when they will encourage us to sing togther, through spirituals and world Songs.
There also be time for worshipping together before repairing to our rooms or to the bar.
Saturday 10 October
We start the day with (optional) morning prayer, followed by breakfast. The rest of the morning will be taken up by two 90 minute sessions in which you can choose from a variety of creative activities.
Optional sessions will include:
- Singing with Geraldine Latty and Carey Luce
- Icon writing using egg tempura
- Stained glass work
- Dance and drama
- Hymn writing
- Liturgy writing
… and more
ArtServe’s AGM will take place immediately after lunch, and we hope that some people who are not able to come to the Festival itself will want to join us. If you want to come to the AGM even though you aren't attending the rest of the festival, we can welcome a few additional people for lunch at a cost of £10.00 – please email . Bear in mind also that you can attend the whole of the Saturday as a day visitor.
After a cup of tea we can choose a third, longer, session to enjoy for the rest of the afternoon. The choice includes a Big Sing with Geraldine Latty and Carey Luce.
On Saturday evening Geraldine Latty and Carey Luce will feature in a concert that includes participation from the Big Sing afternoon session.
Sunday 11 October
Once again, optional early morning prayer is followed by breakfast. We then divide into small groups to prepare for the closing worship.
After a break for coffee, we gather for a structured session on the theme of using creativity to serve others.
The climax of the weekend, our closing worship takes place after lunch, and we will be ready to depart by 4.00 pm.
Our leaders for the weekend
Geraldine Latty and Carey Luce
Geraldine Latty is an artist, encourager and coach. She is a worship leader, choir leader and songwriter.
In 2013 Geraldine married Carey Luce. Both are established performers and writers, so it was inevitable that they would partner musically and become Luce Music. Geraldine and Carey are both lecturers in music at the London School of Theology.
In 2003 Geraldine launched the Gospel Generation Community Choir. There are now eight choirs in the GGCC network.
At our festival, Geraldine and Carey will be leading us in Sing Free on Friday evening – singing together through spirituals and world songs.
On the Saturday morning, the choice of workshops will include two vocal options:
- Vocal care, warm ups, simple songs
- Songs in contemporary gospel style.
On Saturday afternoon, those who wish can participate in a Big Sing, learning songs for all to enjoy during the Saturday evening concert.
Other session leaders
Our session leaders include:
- Stained Glass – Revd Richard Lowson, superintendent minister of the West Hertfordshire and Borders Circuit.
- Icon writing – Susan Cooke
- Hymn writing – the Revd Dr Andrew Pratt
Our chaplain for the weekend will be the Revd Michaela Youngson, a Past President of the Methodist Conference.
