The Woman at the well encountered Jesus during the heat of the day, and she was only there because she was rejected by the townspeople, looked down on and isolated. So many people today feel the same level of rejection and loneliness, and as Christians we have the privilege of sharing the good news and love of Jesus with them. But unlike Jesus who readily engaged in conversation with the woman, we are often left wondering the best way to start a conversation. This is where these beautiful, twisted origami boxes can be useful. The inside of the box can hold a message, and it’s accessed by twisting the structure and looking through the aperture at the top, a bit like looking down a well.

During our online workshop, we will be making these fabulous little boxes and sharing ideas for using them in outreach, mission and church. For example, they would make a lovely gift for those doing an Alpha course or similar, or to have in a basket to take away for non-church members using the premises during the week. Or even to have a basket available on a prayer station.

The boxes look more complicated than they are(!) and once you’ve got your head round the folds and how to twist the structure, you’ll find that they come together relatively quickly. They would make a great thing to make with small groups and are a good way to open up conversations about faith as you make them.
